SAP Pricing Guide Introduction PDF Print E-mail

sappricingguide.jpgThis chapter is a sample excerpt from The Ultimate SAP Pricing Guide by 20-year SAP Pricing expert Matthias Liebich, which is now available on Amazon.com. For more info, check out SAP Pricing Guide reviews on Amazon.

Pricing. Whenever this word is uttered during an SAP implementation, people start to clam up and want to crawl under a desk.

The Ultimate SAP Pricing Guide was written to alleviate this discomfort and fear, and to help you get a better understanding of how pricing works in SAP. Its goal is to explain in easy to understand terms and with plenty of examples how to set up pricing calculations, how they apply in daily business processes and how the standard settings can be manipulated to fit your business processes.

This book is written for business users and consultants alike.

As you will see, pricing in SAP is extremely flexible and can accommodate even the most complex pricing scenarios. The flip side of this flexibility? For the scope of this book, it is impossible to get into every possible permutation of pricing logic (and, of course, I would like to be able to sell you my consulting services at a later date).

This book aims to provide a solid understanding of how pricing works so you, the readers, will be able to apply it to your business requirements.

There are a few prerequisites you should have, which will make the understanding of this Pricing Guide easier. You should have basic knowledge of how to navigate throughout the SAP system. Another prerequisite is a basic understanding of how the organizational structure in the Sales and Distribution Module is set up and how the standard flow of documents from quote to cash works. Terms like transaction codes, Sales Area, customer and material, Sales Order, Delivery Note or Billing Document should not raise any eyebrows.

The Ultimate SAP Pricing Guide will not go into any Industry Solution applications such as IS-OIL or IS-Retail.

This Pricing Guide is structured in five main chapters:

Chapter 1 explains the Condition Technique, which is the basis of all pricing logic in SAP. All parts of the Condition Technique and their interconnectivity are explained. With that knowledge you will be able to configure your own pricing design.

Chapter 2 describes several different ways to create, change and display pricing Condition Records, which are the master data of pricing. This chapter will also describe how to execute a mass price increase.

Chapter 3 explores the application of this master data on Sales Documents and Billing Documents in the SAP system.

Chapter 4 provides details on special pricing scenarios like Free Goods and Rebates, which also use the Condition Technique but reside outside the regular pricing setup.

Lastly, Chapter 5 gives insight into some custom modifications that can enhance the standard SAP pricing functionality.

The examples and screen captures in this Guide were done in an SAP ECC 6.0 system. However, the basic pricing functionality hardly changed since the SAP R/3 4.6 releases, so most explanations are valid for SAP systems from release 4.6C forward. Any specific changes between releases will be indicated when applicable.

Some of the fields described have check tables behind them with a number of possible entries; we will explore the values that fit with the explanation of a chapter.

Throughout the book I refer to previous configuration steps and chapters which, you will see, show how the pricing design comes full circle throughout the system.
