For the next installment in my SCN podcast series, I taped a videocast with SAP's Sanjay Poonen and Mark Finnern to talk culture change at SAP and how SAP Mentors impact SAP culture. At the 15:00 mark, Poonen cites a specific example in SAP mobility where SAP Mentor interactions have directly impacted SAP's forward strategy.

SCN Podcast: Using Idea Place to Crowdsource SAP Mobility Apps Ideas Print E-mail

Podcast: Listen Now!
Vendor Podcast - Jon Reed talks to SAP's Nick Brown and Clemens Suter-Crazzolara about using Idea Place to crowdsource SAP mobility app ideas.
An SAP SCN Community Podcast
Hosted by Jon Reed of JonERP.com
Podcast Interview Date: November 17, 2011

Since the "suggest mobile apps" section was launched on SAP Idea Place six weeks ago, there have been more than 150 ideas from 50 contributors, making it one of the fastest growing areas within Idea Place to this point. But there are still many community members who don't yet know about this project. To find out what inspired the "suggest mobile apps" section on Idea Place and how it fits into SAP's mobility strategy, Jon Reed talks to SAP's Nick Brown and Clemens Suter-Crazzolara.

During the thirteen minute podcast, Brown shares SAP's mobility strategy and his vision for how Idea Place can help pull the ecosystem into a crowdsourced approach to suggesting and prioritizing mobility app development. Suter-Crazzolara, who has been driving the project, explains how those who haven't used Idea Place before can get started suggesting their mobility ideas. The guys give their view on how this project can provide application ideas not only to SAP, but also to its partners. Given that partners will be developing upwards of 80 percent of all SAP mobility apps, it will be interesting to see what role Idea Place can play in aligning partner development with the most popular mobile apps, while warning them away from those that are not as well accepted. This podcast gets that conversation rolling.

Editor's note: In addition to the SAP mobility apps ideas section on Idea Place, you can also check out Clemens Suter-Crazzolara's blog updates about the project on SCN. Also check out the mobility section on SCN.

Vendor Podcast - An Interview with Claus Gruenewald of SAP about two-tier ERP, cloud ERP strategies and SAP Business ByDesign for subsidiaries
An SAP SCN Community Podcast
Hosted by Jon Reed of JonERP.com
Podcast Interview Date: August 10, 2011

One of the growth areas of SAP Business ByDesign is in the subsidiary space, where "two tier ERP strategies" are gaining traction with end customers. In many cases, the smaller subsidiaries in these two tier ERP scenarios are considering cloud ERP. But why is cloud ERP of value to subsidiaries? And what is the business case for integrated ERP systems across a business network? And how should companies handle the tension between the need for flexibility in smaller growth companies and the need for standardization and compliance in larger enterprises?

To get to the bottom of these questions, Jon talks to Claus Gruenewald and Siva Darivemula of SAP. As the Vice President of SAP Business ByDesign, Claus has been heavily involved in ByDesign for subsidiaries, and Siva has been leading up the ByDesign community on the SAP Community Network. During the 30 minute podcast, the guys dig into the issues of cloud ERP for subsidiaries before digging into SAP's ByDesign plans at TechEd and how to get involved in the ByDesign discussions on SCN.

If you can make one generalization about ERP customers, it would be that they all struggle with data integrity and information architectures. An SAP SCN Community Podcast
Hosted by Jon Reed of JonERP.com
Podcast Interview Date: March 31, 2011

It's hard to assess the actual impact of "the cloud" unless you've been able to see it first hand. To get a better insight into the impact of the cloud on the small and medium enterprise (SME), Jon Reed interviewed Sina Moatamed, CIO of BendPak. An early SAP Business ByDesign customer, BendPak has had a chance to grapple with the role SaaS for SMEs and to evaluate its business benefits. During the 24 minute podcast, SAP's Siva Darivemula joins the discussion and shares the latest news about ByDesign on SCN.

As a guiding force behind the IT transformation at BendPak, Moatamed shares what he learned about the IT gaps within the company and how to address them. Based on his experience as the CIO of a larger enterprise and now at BendPak, Moatamed explains why moving to the cloud has the potential to shift the IT department from infrastructure management to systems enablement. In simple terms: cloud-based solutions can empower the business user to build their own services and initiate truly business-driven IT projects. Moutamed believes that SMEs actually have an edge on larger enterprises in this regard, and he explains why in this podcast. He also talks about why BendPak chose ByDesign, what he's looking forward to in version 4.6, and how ByDesign gives BendPak a new kind of "business agility."

Editor's note: this podcast references the new Business ByDesign Community at BPX.SAP.com. Also check out the ByDesign and On Demand blog categories on SCN. During the podcast, Moatamed makes several references to SLAs (Service Level Agreements). For those new to the term, here's a definition.
