How Can This Blog Help my SAP Career?

Hey folks!

This is a great moment. I have been advising people on SAP career decisions for more than ten years, and yet, I have never had my own web site where I could directly respond to career questions posed to me. And if you register (free) for this blog, you can also interact with each other and share your own perspectives and ask me follow up questoins also. The SAP market is a complex place - no one person has all the answers.

In addition to this blog, I’ll be featuring special podcast interviews with "SAP Insiders" to help us get to the bottom of SAP career issues. The SAP consulting market is hotter than it has been since the ’90s, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy to succeed. I have often referred to today’s SAP consulting market as a "winners and losers" market. I have seen consultants with tons of experience end up on the outside looking in because of a few poor project choices. And with SAP’s product changing so much during the NetWeaver era, it’s easier than ever before to become obsolete.

But smart project choices and a good career strategy can keep that from happening. In this blog, I’ll answer the most popular SAP career questions I get. I’m sure I will never get to all of them, but I will try to go further and present a methodology that you can use to apply to your situation. In each question I answer, I will try to identify universal principles or so-called "best practices" that any SAP pro can use.

Finally, as impressive as SAP is as a company and a product, hype often comes before honesty. You can think of this web site as a place to get honest answers about SAP. Instead of just pretending that all the new stuff is hot, we’ll pay careful attention to what hiring managers are really looking for. In my podcasts, we’ll ask hard questions about how the market is really responding to the latest SAP tools. And in this blog, we’ll be honest about which skills are truly in demand and which are hot air. So, I look forward to responding to your questions and building a knowledge base we can all turn to as we make key decisions in the SAP field.

"Jon, you are definitely spot on with your analysis of the SAP market. I've been using your websites for over five years now. Instead of buying all the SAP books, I use your stuff to catch up with what's new in the ever-increasing SAP market." - Mark Reader Feedback

"I've kept up with your site for a long time and your articles via and elsewhere. I just realized a few months ago that you were also the author of the first SAP Consulting book that I read when I decided to take the leap from working at a Utility company to becoming an SAP Consultant. The SAP Consultant Handbook is a staple for any SAP consultant, new or experienced. I just wanted to thank you for the quality work."

- J. Michael Peace, Independent SAP Consultant -
